Christina Fugazi

FOR MAYOR OF STOCKTON

About

Educator and Public Servant

I’m Christina Fugazi, and I’m running for Mayor to solve Stockton’s toughest problems. I’m not afraid.

Christina Fugazi

The Fugazi family has deep and historical roots in San Joaquin County. They settled in Stockton and Lodi in the mid-1800s. Her grandmother’s side helped build the deep-water channel that to this day is vital to the growth of trade and agriculture in our region. Christina’s family home, which was demolished to build the Crosstown Freeway, was just fourteen blocks south of where she lives today.

As a science teacher, Christina has taught young people for twenty-five years, first at Tokay High School and currently at Venture Academy Family of Schools where she founded Delta VISTA Academy. In her teaching career, she has educated thousands of students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs and helped many of them move on to higher education.

A firm believer in the scientific method of observing problems and creating facts-based solutions, Christina has taken those unique problem-solving skills to public service. First appointed as Stockton city planning commissioner in 2007, Christina opposed the provision in the city’s General Plan allowing unfettered development north of Eight Mile Lane. The plan would have destroyed part of Stockton’s last remaining region of open agricultural space.

In 2015, concerned about fiscal mismanagement and rising levels of crime, Christina ran and won a seat on the Stockton City Council where she served two terms. The day Christina was elected she began making a difference for her community. Christina helped stabilize Stockton’s finances and has assisted the city out of bankruptcy. Today, Stockton is the second most fiscally solvent city in California. And she helped restore Stockton police staffing levels from record lows to the standards necessary for controlling crime. Those efforts also included securing a “broken windows” commercial grant to restore blighted neighborhoods.

Additionally, Christina has been responsible for community-focused efforts, including saving Swenson Municipal Golf Course from the developers’ bulldozer, saving Fair Oaks Library in East Stockton from being sold, helping preserve the agricultural integrity of the Delta, and securing more than $10 million for Stockton through the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to clean air pollution at the Port of Stockton and other pollution hot spots in San Joaquin County.

Today, as a candidate for Stockton Mayor, Christina’s goals are to head off the homelessness crisis once and for all, modernize Stockton’s police force, and draw the appropriate balance between environmental protection and economic development.

Christina received a Bachelor of Science from U.C. Davis, her master’s in education and teaching credential from National University, and her administrative credential from California State University at Stanislaus. She has received numerous awards for teaching excellence, including a leadership award for outstanding professional service. She has earned the Teacher Leadership Award in Science from the University of California’s Subject Matter Projects. Additionally, Christina has been a summer research fellow at Sandia National Laboratory in Livermore and won a national ROV competition at Cal State Monterey through the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s summer institute.

CHRISTINA’S VALUES

Why Christina Fugazi?

“With your support and my vision, experience, and dedication, I am ready to lead Stockton forward.”

Public Safety and Police Departments Staffing

I am committed to the safety of every neighborhood in Stockton. I’ll prioritize recruiting and retaining police officers to ensure a well-staffed and effective police department. Strengthening our police force will make our streets safer, improve residents’ quality of life, and create a welcoming environment for new businesses.

Addressing Homelessness and Enforcing the Law

Allowing homelessness to persist is unacceptable. As Mayor, I’ll take decisive action to address homelessness, enforcing the law with compassion, and effectiveness. I’ll work on sustainable solutions that support those in need while maintaining the safety and cleanliness of our city.

Supporting Local Business Districts

I recognize the importance of Miracle Mile, Yosemite, Dr. MLK Jr Blvd, and Wilson Way. I’m dedicated to developing and supporting these districts, making them vibrant, safe, and attractive. By collaborating with local businesses and the State government, I’ll create an environment where our local business districts can thrive, fostering economic growth and community development.
